CBLOL 2021: “It’s just a matter of time before we’re dominating the championship again”, comments brTT

paiN scored their third victory at CBLOL 2021 this Saturday against LOUD, in a game that looked lost to the current champions of the tournament. In a press conference, the brTT shooter spoke about the team’s calm to win this game, problems with the final of the draft and improvement in his and Luci’s performance in the bot lane.

brTT started talking about why it was such a difficult game, especially in the fights, but highlighted the skill of paiN players, both individually and collectively.

To be honest I think it was a bit of draft diff yes. We faltered on our 4-5 (4th and 5th picks and bans) and that made our game difficult, but I think we won this match simply because we have better players, a better team overall. Those problems that were showing up in the fight game we were trying to look for and ended up going wrong, or fights that turned out really bad. Apart from the kalecada I gave there at the bot, I think the fights were really hard to win against their composition, so we did the best with what we had in hand there. Oh, and just to top it off and the guys don’t piss off our coaches, it’s not just them who do the draft, it’s the whole team.

The shooter also commented on what he thinks is going on differently from the first split, as paiN is the championship favorite, but still isn’t showing the “dominance” that many fans expect.

It’s a matter of really getting back to our past split form. I don’t know how long this can take, but I think we’re coming back a bit slowly though. Yesterday the practices were good, but in general we didn’t have a very cool training week, we were making a lot of mechanical mistakes, silly things that can’t happen at a high level of play. In my perception it’s just a matter of time before we get back.

brTT also commented on how he and Luci saw they needed to improve after MSI, both as a duo and individually, and pointed out that the current goal favors the way they play in the lane.

It’s a mix of things, after we came back from MSI, Luci and I saw that we need to improve, and we are sure that if we improve a lot, our chances of doing better abroad will be much higher. In my view, the part of the map where we had the most work was in the bot lane, so we came back more focused knowing that we have to show more work, evolution, and we have managed to do that very well. We understand the current goal well, we are a pair that play very well with the wave, we know how to control it very well and abuse it, and in Brazil I think we are the best bot lane in this regard, so as the goal is more focused on the lane and except in the jungle, as in the last split, we are doing very well and coming out ahead. Our individual performance is also improving a lot due to the recovery after MSI’s return, as we saw that we need to improve.

Even with LOUD dominating most of the match, paiN managed a good fight in the end and secured the GG. brTT talked about how much this victory was the team’s merit and not a “delivery” from the opponent.

In my head I didn’t see any play that they really delivered, we were always looking for the best way to pull a fight, play the game, we were behind with a composition that is very difficult to play in this situation. They had a TF in the team, we had to be very careful with the lateral routes, and there was still an hour when we were without inhibitor so they could try the GG, but our team is already very experienced and knew how to keep calm. We knew that in a good fight we could win the game, even though their composition was better for fights. We were able to use the waves and goals to make their team split, so we were able to fit in a good fight and win the match. We won this game ai more in the experience itself.

brTT also said that paiN deserves to be in the position it is in the CBLOL table so far, but that they are “getting back on track” and the objective is to regain dominance of the championship.

I think it reflects yes, our start to the championship was very weak, so we deserved to be in the position we are in at the moment. You can improve the level of the team, and without a doubt we can beat any team in the championship when we are in our best form, so it’s just a matter of getting back on track again, we know our level and little by little we are understanding the goal, fitting in better and improving our game, so it’s just a matter of time before we’re dominating the league again.

Finally, brTT commented that paiN is already understanding the goal, but told about a “difficulty” the team has at the time of picks and bans from the 4th and 5th choices.

We already understand how to play the meta, so it’s just a matter of training and executing the game plan well. I don’t think we missed the draft because we didn’t understand the meta, it’s a mistake we’ve made for a while, especially in 4-5, which I think is the hardest part of pickings and bans. I don’t know what happens to us, it goes blank, we forget a lot of things and these problems end up happening in the draft. Let’s be more careful with this so we don’t get unlucky and lose a match because of draft, but in terms of goal reading we are already understanding what is strong, which champions are priorities, so just be more careful with this 4 -5 in the draft.

paiN’s next match will be against RED Kalunga on Sunday (20) and you can check out the full coverage of CBLOL 2021 on here on More Sports.
