In addition, the number of patients newly admitted to the hospital has fallen and the number of those discharged as recovered has risen sharply. “It could be an interesting spike in the statistics or the hopeful beginning of a change,” said Cuomo.
In the state of New York with around 19 million inhabitants, almost 122,000 people have so far been infected with the pathogen, Cuomo said. Around 16,500 infected people are currently in hospital. 4,159 people died after being infected. The US government has promised to send another 1,000 nurses and doctors to New York, said Cuomo.
