Causa Commerzialbank: Who got money for 40,000 savings accounts?

Vienna – records and superlatives, the Causa Commerzialbank Mattersburg takes care of that everywhere. Of the balance sheet total (around 800 million euros), 569 million were invented, and the institute collapsed under a debt burden of almost 870 million euros. The bankruptcy is the third largest in the history of the Second Republic, only those of Konsum Österreich and Alpine were larger. The deposit insurance has paid out 489 million euros to savers (up to 100,000 euros per customer are secured in the event of a bank failing) and filed a corresponding claim in bankruptcy proceedings: the largest claim since 1945.
