The KIA Niro is built using a spar-parallel hybrid system that switches between a petrol engine and an electric motor, or uses the power of both powertrains together – while the battery is charged at any option. Unlike conventional hybrid powertrains, the parallel system is able to provide minimal energy loss while providing maximum power from both in-car engines. The standard Niro is equipped with a 1.6 GDi powerplant with a combined power of 141 PS (petrol engine 105 plus 43.5 electric horses), and the main task of this system is to reduce harmful emissions and fuel consumption.
