Cash and drugs were smuggled in at the Panemunė road post

Klaipėda territorial customs officials at the Panemune road post on March 16. detained smuggled goods worth more than 10,000 euros and undeclared medicinal products.

A person with dual citizenship of the German Federation and the Russian Federation, while crossing the state border of the Republic of Lithuania on a footpath from the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation, verbally told the customs officers working at the Panemunė road post that he was not transporting the declared goods.

However, after a detailed customs check, the officers found that the person was lying after checking the citizen’s handbag and travel bag. 10,365 euros and 30 packages of undeclared medicinal products were found in a person’s bag, undeclared, hidden from customs control and smuggled.

Regarding the smuggling of medicinal products according to Article 208 of the ANC of the Republic of Lithuania. Part 1 of the Protocol of Administrative Misdemeanors is drawn up on the person, the offender faces a fine.

Regarding the smuggled cash, the Klaipėda branch of the Customs Criminal Service has launched a pre-trial investigation led by the Klaipėda District Prosecutor’s Office.

Article 199 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania for money smuggling. Paragraph 1 provides for a fine or imprisonment for up to 4 years.

Lithuanian customs reminds that persons arriving in the Republic of Lithuania from third countries and transporting at least 10 thousand EUR cash amount (or the equivalent amount in another currency), must declare it at the customs office through which they enter the Republic of Lithuania. It is mandatory to submit a completed and signed Cash Declaration form without a separate request from a customs officer.
