Carrying 30 Rafale Fighter Jets, French Nuclear Carriers Stop in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI Aircraft carrier nuclear powered French ; Charles de Gaulle, stopped in Abu Dhabi on Thursday as part of a deployment to demonstrate freedom of navigation in the region’s waters. This ship is carrying 30 Rafale fighter jets and other aircraft.

The flagship of the French Navy is anchored at the port of Mina Zayed, escorted by three warships from NATO countries as well as submarines and refueling vessels.

His arrival in the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is part of a four-month deployment through the East Mediterranean, Red Sea, Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf called “Clemenceau 21”, which includes operations with the coalition against ISIS.

The three NATO warships escorting the French aircraft carrier are frigates from Greece and Belgium and the destroyer of the United States Navy; USS Porter.

“The main mission of the deployment of Clemenceau 21 is the fight against terrorism, against Daesh,” said Rear Admiral Marc Aussedat, who uses an Arabic acronym for another name for ISIS.

“We are also positioned in a strategic area where the interests of France, the interests of Europe, the interests of allies are at stake and this is a tool to spread stability and remind everyone of the importance of freedom of navigation, and freedom of action from the sea,” he was quoted as saying.
