Latvian highway cyclist Toms Skujiņš is included in the “Trek – Segafredo” team “Tour de France” training camp, the unit informs.

The Tour de France will prepare from 12 to 28 July on a plateau in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
Skujiņš, Bauke Molema, Ricijs Porte, Jaspers Steens, Niklass Egs, Edvards Tens, Alex Kiršs, as well as two athletes who will not take part in the camp – world champion Mad Pedersen and Keni Elisonds will apply for the start of the French tour. Each team can enter eight cyclists in the “Tour de France”, so for one of these athletes the dream of this year’s tour will not come true.
“Normally, we would have an indicative list of riders who could start in one of the tours, and each could choose from 10-12 candidates, whose performance will be judged by their performance in the competition. But not this year,” the team quotes General Manager Luk Gurchilen as saying.
“Trek – Segafredo” is also represented by Emīls Liepiņš, but he is not among the candidates for the “Tour de France” or “Giro d’Italia”. Dobelnieks have to hope for the start of “Vuelta a Espana”.
“Vuelta a Espana is the only big tour where we still have some time to make decisions. At the moment, all that is clear is that Molema will be the captain,” says Gurcilena.
Herring “Tour de France” has participated in the previous two years. Last year, he debuted on a tour of France, in which he was the leader of the mountain king from the fifth to the ninth stage. Skujiņš won the highest place in the 15th stage, where he finished fifth, but in the end the Latvian was in the 82nd position.
Last year, the Carnikavis achieved the best result in the 17th stage, where he won the ninth place, but in the overall rating he was in the 79th place.
