Carlos Trilnick, a reference in video art and …

On Saturday the artist from Rosario died of cancer Carlos Trilnick, one of the pioneers of video art in Argentina. His prolific work made him one of the leading references in the field of video installations, photography and multimedia art. Throughout his career he exhibited in prestigious international spaces such as the MoMA, the Museum of the Image and Sound of Saint Paul or the Center for Contemporary Art in Sydney. During the last civic-military dictatorship he went into exile in Israel, where he studied photography and video. But Trilnick not only worked as an artist but also as a teacher: for four years he was director of the Design, Image and Sound career at the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism (UBA), and visiting professor in the Communication Department of the University of California. The pity (2009) is perhaps one of his most representative works because it condenses his commitment to social reality: that video showed Gloria and Miguel, a morochos and poor mother and son, posing in the rain in the Once neighborhood, completely ignored by their surroundings . The figure referred to the work from Michelangelo and also to The working family by Oscar Bony, an installation censored in 1968 by Onganía during its exhibition at the Instituto Di Tella.
