The fire broke out around 5 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, in an apartment, located on the first floor, of a building in rue de Tilloloy, in Carentan (Some). The firefighters had evacuated a person holed up in his accommodation, three people were hospitalized. The fire did not cause any injuries, but destroyed the apartment and seriously damaged two other apartments.
“A 27-year-old man, suspected of having set the building on fire, was brought before the Coutances prosecution on Friday 13 November”, indicates the Saint-Lô gendarmerie company, in charge of the investigation. The man is suspected of having bought a jerry can of fuel at a service station in the town, then of having set fire to the apartment in the building. According to the gendarmes, the alleged perpetrator then fled.
During their investigations, the Carentan gendarmerie brigade, with the assistance of the Saint-Lô research brigade, then identified this suspect, already known to the services. Wanted since then, he was arrested at relatives’ homes in Picauville on Thursday, November 12 at 6 a.m.
The Coutances prosecutor’s office has opened a judicial investigation. The suspect was indicted and placed under judicial supervision.
