Cardiologist reveals what he does daily for heart health

The chief physician of the Sana Hospital Düsseldorf-Benrath in Germany, cardiologist Torsten Dill, believes that most of the deaths associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases can be prevented.

According to the cardiologist, coronary heart disease, heart failure and arrhythmia are closely related to each other, and therefore, basically the same recommendations are applied to prevent them.

– It is a healthy lifestyle that combines a balanced diet with adequate physical activity. The Mediterranean diet is preferred. It is recommended to devote 150 to 180 minutes of physical activity per week. Walking quite often, regularly climbing stairs without using the elevator are simple measures that are very effective. It is also important to control cholesterol levels, blood pressure and completely quit smoking to protect the heart and blood vessels, the doctor explained.

Thorsten Dill noted that he finds time to run three times a week – regardless of the weather. The workout lasts at least an hour.

– No special relaxing techniques are needed for this – running is enough for me. I also try to build my diet every day so that it contains less meat and more fish with vegetables, ”the doctor said.

The cardiologist considers stress to be the main risk factor for heart disease. The latter is usually associated with lack of sleep and poor sleep quality in general, smoking, drinking a lot of sweets or alcohol, the doctor concluded.
