SEMG Advances Cardiovascular & Diabetes Care with “Cardio Activate” and New Clinical Algorithm
MADRID, September 29 (EUROPA PRESS) – The spanish Society of General and Family Physicians (SEMG) recently concluded its XI Diabetes Training Forum and IX Cardiovascular day in Toledo, bringing together 250 family doctors from across spain to focus on ”United in cardiorealmetabolic health.” The event served as the launchpad for the SEMG’s new “Cardio Activate” project, an initiative designed to promote physical exercise as a cornerstone of cardiovascular health.
“Cardio Activate” resources, including materials and videos, were showcased throughout the forum, displayed on screens in auditoriums and common areas. A charitable component was also integrated, with static bicycles allowing attendees to contribute to the SEMG Solidaria Foundation through pedaling – each rotation translating into a donation for projects in disadvantaged countries.
The forum provided a platform for reviewing the latest scientific advancements in diabetes and cardiovascular disease, aligning with findings from recent international congresses, studies, and clinical guidelines. A key highlight was the presentation of “DiabeTosemg 2025,” a new algorithm aimed at comprehensive type 2 diabetes management. This algorithm emphasizes individualized patient evaluation, considering factors like fragility, obesity, chronic renal disease, heart failure, and existing cardiovascular disease.
Beyond presentations, the program featured practical workshops, lively debates, and a unique “meetings in coffee” format. This innovative approach facilitated dialog and experience sharing amongst healthcare professionals, guided by experts from the SEMG’s cardiovascular and diabetes work groups.
Organizers expressed strong satisfaction with the event’s success, citing high attendance and the quality of the scientific content. The SEMG also recognized outstanding research with awards for best communications:
* First Place: Diego Martín Rubio – “Ultrasound as a help tool to stratify the vascular risk”
* second Place: Isabel Roig Grau – “Progressive post-transplant vasculopathy in diabetes with optimal metabolic control: a clinical paradox?”
* Third Place: Manuel Jesús López Mora – “Challenge in metabolic control in a patient with type 1 diabetes mellitus and psychiatric comorbidity”
