Carcassonne. Practitioners join forces against obesity

Dietitians, educators in adapted physical activities, a sophrologist and a psychologist are part of Rés’Obésité 11.

On October 1, the hospital created the Carcassonne Obesity Center (COC), coordinated by Dr. Sixte-Henri Sondji, visceral surgeon, to provide a personalized care pathway for patients. To support these people outside the hospital center, Carcassonnais practitioners have joined forces within a network called Rés’Obésité 11, with as consultant surgeon Dr Sondji, under the impulse of Carole Coll, currently in master II health education.

We are thus partners of the COC of the hospital center. And this network is part of a national desire to create a link between the hospital and the City, insists Carole Coll.

To date, the network has three dieticians, two educators in adapted physical activities, a sophrologist and a psychologist. Objective: to offer comprehensive care for people suffering from obesity, nutritional aspects, through the practice of physical activities, emotional management and self-esteem. For this, the members of this network intend to work as a team, and thus orient patients. Every month, the group meets to work together, in the Soleil du Dôme room, with the support of the City of Carcassonne. In this same room, themed workshops will be offered from February for overweight people and their carers. The first, on February 17, will be dedicated to sophrology. The financial coverage of these activities can in part be provided by certain mutuals. But the financial aspect can be a real or false problem because these people can unfortunately spend a lot on food, slimming cream or diet …, stresses Carole Coll.

The advice of this network is not only for overweight people but also those in the making including young people… Parents are seeking advice in the face of an anarchic food supply, notes Jean-Jacques Curier, educator in adapted physical activities. According to Carole Coll, this network is the first in the Aude to be created. Rés’Obésité 11 however intends to exchange its practices with others, such as that of Montpellier.

Members of the network will be on call every Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Soleil du Dôme room. Membership of the association is set at € 10 per year. Information on Facebook: Obesity 11.
