Caramel-colored mountains in Azerbaijan … What is the secret of their unique colors?

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Do you have a big appetite for all things sweet? So be sure to make the Candy Cane Mountains one of your must-see spots (see the video above).

Although their name suggests, these bright mountains are certainly inedible, but the patterns that cover them may remind you of candy canes sold in candy stores.

These mountains are a natural landmark worth visiting in Azerbaijan’s Khizi region for their mesmerizing colors that stretch as far as the eye can see.

These mountains are characterized by the red, orange and pink eddies that adorn them, which are faint in other areas.

Their unusual colors led to the “candy cane” mountains being nicknamed by British travel writer Mark Elliott, a name that has been used by travelers ever since, according to Azerbaijan’s official travel website, Experience Azerbaijan.

The striking colors were said to come from groundwater which changed the oxidation state of iron compounds within the rocks.

Andrei Jabali, an Azerbaijani travel photographer, visited these enchanting mountains several years ago and documented their unique colors via a drone to showcase their beauty from an aerial perspective.

Jabali confirmed in an interview with CNN in Arabic: “Any place far from civilization will fill you with a state of calm and serenity, and Khizi is no exception.”

The photographer added: “You can climb a hill and watch the sunset there. It is also nice to look at the starry sky from there because this place is far from the light pollution of the cities”, stressing that visiting the region will make you feel “on Mars. “

You can explore this site on your own by taking a stroll through its curves.

Although Azerbaijan is rich in many attractive places, Jabali highlighted some of the destinations adjacent to these mountains, which tourists can also visit, and include Shamakhi province, Chiragkala castle and Mount Besh Parmag.
