Emergency services found a crashed vehicle in a ditch along the Venneweg in Hoorn around 06:00 on Sunday morning.

The driver seemed to have disappeared. Shortly after the arrival of the police and ambulance, a man emerged from the bushes who identified himself as known to the owner of the car. He would have received a call that the vehicle was in the water.
Police did not believe the man, but were unable to prove whether he was the driver of the crashed vehicle. It was also a one-vehicle accident, so there was no reason to detain him. The car was recovered from the water by a salvage company. The Venneweg was temporarily closed as a result.
