CANTABRIA.-Oncología de Valdecilla celebrates its VI symposium to analyze the latest advances in cancer management

SANTANDER, 21 (EUROPE PRESS)

The Oncology Service of the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital celebrates in Santander, from June 23 to 25, in a face-to-face and virtual way, the VI Symposium ‘Oncopromesas vs Oncosaurios’, focused in this edition on analyzing the most recent innovations in cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as future challenges.

The head of the Oncology Service, Dr. Fernando Rivera, has indicated that, despite the fact that COVID-19 has stressed health systems, “cancer is still there and continues to be a difficult challenge”, so progress in its knowledge and in its management “it continues to be an absolute priority”.

Under the slogan ‘Assimilating progress in oncology’, Rivera explained that this meeting, which after five editions has established itself as a reference within Spanish oncology, is “an ideal forum” for young oncologists and veteran national and international speakers of recognized prestige give presentations and debate on issues related to both the most recent innovation and expectations for progress, as well as multimodal treatments, or the generation of scientific evidence through clinical trials or artificial intelligence.

Regarding the scientific program, the controversies and novelties of breast cancer, gynecological cancer, head and neck cancer, melanoma, brain tumors and sarcoma, lung, prostate and urothelial cancer, cancer will be addressed. colorectal and non-colorectal digestive cancer.

In all these tumors, important advances are being made in the knowledge of their biology, in their diagnosis from the molecular point of view and in the development of new treatments directed against specific molecular targets and in that of new immunotherapies, these treatments being increasingly more personalized.

Another of the symposium tables will also discuss the analysis of clinical data from the point of view of statistics and artificial intelligence and the importance of clinical trials in oncology.

During this symposium, some of the conferences that will be given by national and international speakers of great prestige are especially noteworthy, such as ‘Cooperative groups in oncology: where do we come from, where are we and where are we going?’, By Dr. Antonio Antón, from the Miguel Servet University Hospital of Zaragoza; ‘Advanced germ tumors: redefining the prognosis in the XXI century’, given by Dr. Enrique González, from the 12 de Octubre University Hospital, Madrid; ‘Immunotherapy in advanced esophago-gastric cancer. Present and future ‘, by Dr. Florián Lordick, from the Leizpig University Medical Center in Germany; and ‘Liver transplantation in metastatic colorectal cancer’, given by Dr. René Adam, from the Hôpital Universitaire Paul Brousse, Villejuif, France

One more edition, the symposium includes for young oncologists a contest of clinical cases that aims to be able to show in real cases the advances in oncology and another contest of innovative ideas to stimulate their scientific spirit through the presentation of projects that can contribute to improving the care of cancer patients.
