Can’t sleep, can only talk with inhaler: Uma Thomas

Thyakakkara – Uma Thomas MLA said that due to the fire and smoke in Brahmapuram, people are in a lot of trouble and he has breathing problem and is traveling with two inhalers in his bag.

“At my house in Palarivatta, I can’t sleep after three o’clock in the night. I have breathing problem. I carry two inhalers in my bag. It is only possible to speak with an inhaler. After talking for a while, there is something in the throat. There are many people who suffer from breathing problems like this. There is a lot of fear when thinking about chemical reactions. It is a problem that affects unborn babies, asthmatics and even those without any illness.’ – said Uma Thomas.

Deadly toxins like dioxin come out. It can cause fatal diseases including cancer. During the Covid period, the Chief Minister read the report every day. If the pollution index here reads like that, there would be a case for people to be cautious. Uma Thomas also demanded that those responsible for the fire should be punished.

In the early days, not even an attempt was made to put out the fire. My area has the most problem. I came to know about the meeting at the Collectorate through the Ernakulam MLA. After I called the collector there and asked him, he thought of calling me to the meeting. The collector answered me without any preparation without thinking about who was affected. It is an instruction from the minister’s office. The answer was that they called.

Such situations are handled by the Collector and not by the Minister. Maybe by blaming or something. I was not called in the meeting so I asked and bought it. No decision could be taken in the meeting. The first thing I did was to send a letter to the Union Environment Minister asking for his support. Tomorrow is the hearing for filing a writ in the second high court. Hopefully there will be a favorable decision. People working at Infopark can be sent home with work from home. It is difficult to stay in the hostel because of the smoke. Uma Thomas added that no action has been taken by the government in this regard.

T.J. Vinod MLA

Kochi> TJ said that there was a problem in coordination for the first two days after the fire. Vinod MLA For the first two days there was a problem with coordination. I met the collector and asked him to call a meeting. When I went to Brahmapuram, I saw a terrible situation. Five or six fire engines of the fire force are fighting the fire there. There is no water. The water was filled by the fire engine queuing at the quay of the temple there. Realizing the difficulty of this, I wrote an urgent letter to the Chief Minister. This is not the first fire in Brahmapuram. There have been fires in the past and they were all extinguished within hours. There must be a solution to Kochi’s waste management. There is 100 acres of land for waste treatment. Till date there has not been a single discussion by calling the locals or people’s representatives about how the waste treatment should be done.

Living in Tammanam, I feel like something is sitting in my chest when I breathe. People have been enduring this for 11 days. The MLA also said that the reason for so much austerity is due to the delay in the government’s strong intervention to find a permanent solution to this.
