A member of the Canadian House of Commons has gone through the dust with his colleagues after a gaffe in a video meeting with other MPs. He appeared there almost naked in front of the camera last week.
A screenshot, owned by the Canadian Press news agency, shows Quebec Liberal Party politician William Amos without clothes, standing between the flags of Canada and Quebec. His private parts were covered by what looks like a cell phone.
Amos’s mistake was pointed out in the meeting by an opposition member, who delicately pointed out that male MPs are legally required to wear a jacket and tie, as well as a shirt, underwear and pants. The speaker later thanked her for her “observations”.
Outside watch could not peek
“This was an unfortunate mistake,” Amos said in a statement afterwards. “My camera accidentally turned on when I was getting changed after jogging. I sincerely apologize for this unintended distraction. It was a real mistake and it won’t happen again.”
It is unclear how the images ended up at the press agency, because the images were only visible to members of parliament and employees. “This is a warning to everyone,” said a colleague of Amos from the Liberal Party. “You should always assume that the camera is on, and make sure you are appropriately dressed when wandering around a camera.”
According to him, Amos was “devastated” by the incident. “I don’t think he had any wrong intentions. It was just an accident.”
