Success Liverpool hook Darwin Nunez still worries. The question arises whether the young Uruguayan striker can replace Sadio Mane?
Reforms occurred in Liverpool’s front line this summer. The Reds dared to release Sadio Mane, a crucial player in the last five seasons.
The Senegalese striker was released to Bayern Munich for 35 million pounds plus bonuses. Instead, Liverpool managed to hook Darwin Nunez.
Nunez was brought in from Benfica with a fantastic transfer value. Liverpool spend a total of 85 million pounds [termasuk bonus-bonus ke Benfica]which would make him the most expensive player in the club’s history.
Nunez himself became a dangerous young striker last season. With Benfica, Nunez can score 34 goals from 42 appearances in all competitions.
Although statistically considered qualified as a replacement Sadio Mane, there are still concerns. Paul Merson, ex Arsenal, scared Darwin Nunez can’t score important goals like Mane di Liverpool.
“It’s a big, very big loss. I’m worried. Not for Liverpool, because they have a top manager, but Mane, because he is an important player,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“An important player, who scores important goals in football matches. He doesn’t score three, four or five goals in big wins. He scores the winning goal, the goal that puts the team ahead or equalizes.”
“Those goals are what I’m waiting for. I’m not looking for a player who can score a hat-trick, or four, five and six in a 7-1 win.”
“For me, it’s not a goal. He got a lot of goals, and Darwin Nunez have to keep trying like Diaz. In the Premier League, that rarely happens.”
