Camorra, 13 arrests in Rome: two members of the Moccia clan also involved

There are fourteen restaurants seized this morning by the carabinieri in Rome at the disposal of the Dda in piazzale Clodio. These are commercial establishments in the heart of the capital whose management is attributable to the Camorra clan of Moccia. The restaurants are located in the Pantheon area, via dei Coronari, Trastevere, Trevi Fountain, Castel San’Angelo, Quirinale and Piazza Navona.

The kidnappings were carried out as part of the operation that led to the arrest of 13 people, including 8 in prison and 5 under house arrest. The disputed crimes range from extortion, fictitious registration of assets, aggravated by the mafia method, as well as abusive exercise of credit. Among the recipients of the ordinance also Angelo and Luigi Moccia, leaders of the homonymous Camorra clan.

During the operation, a decree of preventive seizure of assets was also executed, also for the purposes of confiscation, of part of the clan’s assets, with a total value of approximately 4 million euros, reconstructed and identified during the investigation.
The investigation revealed various economic interests of the clan in the capital and in particular on the restaurants in the center. The carabinieri are also carrying out a seizure of assets for 4 million.

The investigations started in 2017 immediately after Angelo Moccia’s release: the investigations would have made it possible to ascertain that the clans managed various commercial activities in Rome through nominees, laundering illicit capital into real estate investments and luxury cars – always in the name of others subjects – and extorting money with mafia methods from those who did not respect the rules.

The precautionary detention order was issued by the investigating judge of Rome at the request of the DDA.
