“The data in Indonesia from 57 cases generally is cough. Delta is fever, now cough and sore throat, runny nose, flu. It feels like flu. But then from our patients who are hospitalized, cough and sore throat are very dominant ,” he said.
The two symptoms of the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants are indeed very similar to the common cold, so they are often underestimated by the public. In fact, it is very important to keep getting checked even if you only experience mild symptoms.
“Because it’s like the flu, people are lazy to do SWAB. Even though this is important for tracing and proper treatment,” he said.
Dr. Erlina also reminded, don’t just come to the hospital when the symptoms of COVID-19 are in the severe category, such as shortness of breath.
“So cough, sore throat, you have to get yourself checked. Don’t wait for shortness of breath because it means lung damage has occurred, lack of oxygen, and this is dangerous,” he continued.
Previously, Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants were reported to have 57 cases in Indonesia as of 17 June 2022. 10 of them were BA.4 cases, while the other 47 were BA.5 cases.
