Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War multiplayer • Gamingnation

This weekend, PlayStation 4 owners got to work with the alpha of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. The undersigned went to work with it and had to get used to the way the game plays. Why you read below!

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War plays the same in many things as we are used to every year, but there are again small changes that make the gameplay feel different. The gameplay feels a lot faster in some surfaces than in Call of Duty Modern Warfare / Warzone.

This more in the sense of moving and shooting. It’s all about maybe a tenth of a second, but it’s just enough to be noticeable. This is not negative, but something to get used to.
Something that does not feel as fast again is the fact that the ‘sliding’ of soldiers no longer benefits your speed, because you will be slowed down when you do. This also feels more logical, but it becomes a matter of unlearning if you do this a lot in the current Call of Duty.

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War takes place in the 80s and that obviously means that we use other (older) weapons. Although many models have similarities, the weapons also feel different.
Fortunately, all these weapons can still be provided with all kinds of attachments in the gun smith, although you will (for the time being) have to do this in between pots. While Modern Warfare gave the opportunity to screw that one silencer onto your weapon during a game, this is not (yet) in Black Ops Cold War.

The Gun Smith has not had to go through many changes, but one that immediately stands out is the fact that you now see percentage before you put an attachment on your weapon. For example, this can have advantages for stability, but again have disadvantages for mobility. So this is indicated in percentage, which is of course even clearer than what we have in Modern Warfare / Warzone.

Perks, attachments and the joker card

Another change in the layouts of your attachments and perks are the cards that you can select. These cards give you the option, for example, to put three extra attachments on your weapon or use three extra perks.

It is therefore possible to put eight attachments on your weapon, although this is usually at the expense of its speed. But a sniper with this number of attachments can perhaps ensure that you become / remain the sniper king.

(typisch) Call of Duty

In the 6 vs 6 modes you will quickly notice that the maps are really classic examples of Call of Duty maps in a new guise. The levels do not feel too big, offer the possibility to attack from a longer distance and are clear.

In that respect, I was actually afraid that there would be a lot of campers, but that is (still) not so bad. Sure, there are better places to stay to snipe on some maps than others, but I didn’t get annoyed this weekend by having to look around every corner.

On land, at sea and on mission

A new mode introduced in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is Combined Arms: Domination. Actually, this is one of the modes under the Combined Arms, where Domination pits two teams of 12 men against each other. So it is a larger variant of the well-known mode, but with vehicles. And this was also one of the modes that fascinated me the most, because it gives just that fresh wind that a franchise like Call of Duty needs.

In the two maps (Armada and Crossroads) you as a team have to conquer or reclaim a number of places and keep them in possession for as long as possible. Armada is set in the Atlantic Ocean and features ships and jet skis as vehicles. Of course the other ships are equipped with guns and this makes for a completely different battle than you are used to. So you will not only have to focus on your mission and the enemy, but also how they approach / target you.

Crossroads is set in a snowy environment somewhere in the former Soviet. There are snow engines and tanks that can be used as vehicles. The mode should feel familiar to those who have played Battlefield, but feel slightly different due to the typical gameplay that Call of Duty entails.

Enough to continue embroidering for another year?

The alpha of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War actually plays as you are used to from Call of Duty, with some minor adjustments here and there. By the way, it also gives you a whole list of attachments that you should normally unlock first, but still leaves enough to discover in the full game. Also in terms of weapons Treyarch (hopefully) has a lot of surprises in store for us. There are already a number of weapons among which I will enjoy the necessary hours of fun.

In addition, there is of course also the Zombies mode and the single player that we can look forward to and Warzone will also be part of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, but of course it cannot be assessed. What Treyarch has shown so far is actually what we are presented with every year. A slightly renewed game with some new modes here and there. I don’t mean this negatively, but I secretly hope that the full game will bring some surprises!
