California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency over the rising number of monkeypox infections. Newsom hopes that people can now be vaccinated more quickly. According to news channel NBC, the demand for vaccines in California currently exceeds the supply.

It is the second state in three days to declare a state of emergency. That happened last Friday in New York. Nearly 6,000 monkeypox infections have been identified in the US, spread across 48 states.

As of yesterday, nearly 830 cases have been recorded in California. The vast majority of infections are in San Francisco established. A state of emergency was declared in that city last week.

The most infections have been counted in New York state so far: 1390.
