Small fire, big impact: A cable through which all communication runs is damaged.

The cable fire was near the Sternschanze train station – on the so-called connecting train, which runs from Altona via Diebsteich, Sternschanze and Dammtor to the main station. It is one of the busiest routes nationwide. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the police are currently not assuming external influence. The entire communication on this route between the signal boxes runs over the affected cable, the railway said. About the points and the signals would be controlled. According to the railway spokeswoman, the cable is a 1,000-wire copper cable. That would be very difficult to get back. The extensive repair work continues.

Already on Friday many failures

There had already been massive disruptions on Friday. People were queuing in Hamburg’s train stations, and long queues formed in front of the information desks.
