Cabinet wants streak through introduction weeks for new students Inland

The government sees students as a risk group in the distribution. The official decision will be taken on Thursday. Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) will give a press conference afterwards.

LSVb disappointed

The National Student Union (LSVb) is disappointed that the introduction weeks for students will probably be canceled. “It makes sense that sharp measures apply. But students must be able to get to know each other and the study program, ”says Freya Chiappino, vice president of the LSVb. She emphasizes the importance of the introductory weeks for new students in this era of corona. “Especially if your education is mainly going to be digital, as a freshman you should have the opportunity to get to know your fellow students, your city and your college or university.”

Earlier this week, the Amsterdam student association ASC / AVSV ended the introductory period because of four corona infections among members and prospective members. In Rotterdam too, there are major concerns about the high number of infections among students.

Not only students, but also holidaymakers returning from risk areas are a source of concern. According to insiders, the cabinet is considering setting up a test street at Schiphol where travelers can have themselves tested voluntarily and easily.

For returnees from countries for which an orange or red travel advice applies, there is an urgent advice to quarantine for two weeks after returning home. But if they test negative twice in a short period of time, that period could possibly be shortened.

The extra cabinet meeting has been scheduled because the number of infections with the new corona virus has increased sharply in recent weeks. The House of Representatives is also concerned about this. There will be a plenary debate next week, preceded by a technical briefing on the latest developments surrounding the virus.
