CABA begins to apply a covid vaccine booster to those over 70 years old | When the shifts will start to arrive

The Buenos Aires Minister of Health, Fernán Quirós, announced the application of the booster doses of the coronavirus vaccine for those over 70 years of age who have completed the vaccination schedule more than six months ago, as indicated in the new guidelines by the Ministry of Health of the Nation. The minister clarified that shifts will begin to arrive in the next 10-15 days.

Quirós clarified that people who were immunized with double doses of Sputnik V will receive AstraZeneca, and anticipated that next year they will evaluate “which other groups decide to include.”

Third doses versus boosters

In addition, Quirós differentiated the third additional doses from the booster ones. The former are intended for people with immunosuppressive diseases and over 50 years of age who have received the full Sinopharm scheme. In these cases, the authorities considered that “two doses do not provide complete protection” against the disease and for that reason an additional dose is given within the initial scheme.

Instead, the booster dose “is thinking about 2022,” explained the official who remarked that it will always be after six months of the second dose. Waiting that period of time “is important, because the immune system has a maturation process,” he explained.

Pediatric vaccination defense

Quirós remarked this morning that “There is no doubt” about the safety and efficacy of the Sinopharm vaccine for pediatric application and argued that the institutions that gave their approval “are extremely trustworthy.”

“There is not much doubt, the National Immunization Commission of Argentina has recommended the application, the Anmat has recommended the use and the Argentine Pediatric Society has recommended the application. I think are very prestigious institutions in the country that have accompanied these vaccination concepts for decades and they have been very clear ”, emphasized the official in the press conference this morning.
