The Miajadas Athletics Club debuted this weekend in the Extremadura Track League, thus fulfilling one of the objectives set in the foundation of the entity, allowing not only children, but also adults to compete on the track, as explained by its president, Alberto Masa. To which we must add that they already compete as a federated club.
This league consists of four days that will be distributed between the months of April, May and June. Each of them consists of twelve individual tests and a relay each, the teams add points based on the results, therefore, the more tests they complete, the more points they will add, from the fourteen points awarded to the best team in each test to 1 point assigned to last.
Alberto Masa acknowledges that the adults were very nervous on this first day held at the Ciudad Deportiva de Cáceres, since they all came from competing on asphalt: “I personally hadn’t done track for years and Sergio, for example, started marching for the first time in his life and did the 5 km march. Telesforo was throwing weight, Andrés and Antonio Jesús made their debut on the track, Juanqui did the 3,000 hurdles test, very hard. On the other hand, the relay is something that we have not trained and you have to pass it on while you go very fast, ”said the president. In addition, he says that they felt the responsibility to do their best, because the more points each one makes, the more they give to their club, and that later transforms into having more aid.
Two girls representing the women’s team
The Miajadeño club has presented a men’s team this season, which, after playing the first day, is in tenth position in the table with 40 points, above Olivenza, Torrejoncillo and Sanvicenteño.
In the female category they only have two licenses. At first they could not form a team, but finally they could, although this means that they cannot compete at the same level as the others: “As we only have two girls, of the twelve tests we can only complete two, to which we must add that we cannot we have a team for the relays, so the points to be scored are very few. In addition, on the first day they both did the same test, so only the best of them scored points ”, explains Alberto Masa. The women’s team occupies the twelfth position, last, with 9 points.
Despite everything, the nerves of the first day are over, and now it’s time to prepare the next one. The Miajadas Athletics Club is very happy with the experience and more motivated than ever, to be able to compete in this ‘rare’ season for all athletes.
