BWF Releases New Ranking, Indonesian Men’s Doubles Dominate Top 5 World

Badminton World Federation (BWF) released the latest ranking of world badminton athletes. Indonesian men’s doubles dominate the World’s Top 5.

The latest ranking list can be seen from the BWF website as of August 2, 2022. Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon remains at the top with a total of 111,827 points. He was approached by the Japanese pair Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi in second place with 107,650 points.

Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan was in third place, the 2019 All England champion was followed by the Taiwanese pair Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin who was ranked 4th with a total of 99,468 points.

Dawn Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto which this year is quite consistent with winning at the Swiss Open, Indonesia Masters, and Malaysia Masters 2022 is in fifth position.

Meanwhile, the other three Indonesian men’s doubles, Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Rambitan, Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, and Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin occupy the 14th, 20th and 21st positions respectively.

In the women’s doubles sector, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, who was previously ranked 42 in the world, improved their position by moving up one level. The Singapore Open 2022 champion collected 39,640 points.

Changes also occurred in the men’s singles sector, although not too significant. Jonatan Christie’s position, who was in eighth place last week, moved up one level closer to Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, who was in sixth place with a total of 90.479 points. Jonathan rose to seventh place by collecting 82,812 points.

In the first and second places were Danish representatives Viktor Axelsen and Japanese singles Kento Momota. Following Anders Antonsen (Denmark) who entered the third rank.

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung from the women’s singles sector did not experience a change in ranking. She is in the 26th position in the world, while Putri Kusuma Wardani is up one place from being at 48th in the world.

The first place in women’s singles was still occupied by Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi with a total of 111,813 points and Tai Tzu Ying in second place, followed by An Se Young from South Korea.
