Businessman Dies in Porsche Crash Hours After Birthday Purchase
CARAZINHO, BRAZIL - A 45-year-old businessman died Thursday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident on the BR-386 highway in Rio Grande do sul, just two and a half hours after purchasing a new Porsche. Jonas Stefanello, a resident of Ibirubá, lost control of the vehicle between the municipalities of Carazinho and Sarandi, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Stefanello had acquired the black Porsche Cayman as a birthday gift to himself, having turned 45 on September 2nd. He took possession of the vehicle around noon from a dealership in Rondinha and the crash occurred at approximately 2:30 PM.The tragedy has impacted his family, the Coprel Energy Cooperative where his father serves as president, and the local community where stefanello was known for his cheerful disposition. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, which occurred during rainy conditions.
Police have not yet released details regarding the accident’s dynamics, but confirm stefanello’s vehicle overturned near a deactivated toll booth without impacting other vehicles. The Civil police investigation will focus on determining the factors that led to the loss of control.
Stefanello is survived by his father, Jânio Vital Stefanello, president of Coprel Energy Cooperative, his mother, two brothers, and a nine-year-old daughter.
Coprel released a statement expressing their sorrow, describing Stefanello as possessing “an easy smile and a unique charisma,” and noting his “contagious energy” that “marked the places he passed.”
