Bus arrives in NYC with more than 50 immigrants from Texas

Immigrants from Central and South America continue to arrive in New York after crossing several countries and dangerous borders.

On Friday morning, a bus arrived from Texas with 54 people, most of them from Venezuela.

“In the jungle we met a family of 14 people, people we helped and people who helped us and told us to come to New York that there were more jobs here, there were more opportunities for Venezuelans,” said Gustavo Rodríguez. , Venezuelan immigrant from Texas.

Eric Adams, Mayor of New York and Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, exchanged disagreements regarding the management of the overwhelming situation of immigrants.

Abbot stated that: “Migrants can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted within ‘the sanctuary city.’ I hope he keeps his promise to welcome all migrants with open arms so that our overflowing and overwhelmed border cities can find relief.”

Meanwhile, Adams replied:

“…Your continued use of human beings as political pawns is disgusting, and a shameful stain on the state of Texas. New York will continue to welcome asylum seekers with open arms, as we always have… We need Washington DC’s help to stand up to the cruel political games being played by inept politicians like the Governor of Texas.”

“Governor Abbot is playing games with human lives, he is lying to people, he is putting them on buses to New York with false promises,” said Manuel Castro, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Immigration Affairs.

“But here in New York we receive people, we help them with dignity, with humanity and the message is clear, we need support from the federal government to be able to provide shelter, provide food, provide services to this community that comes after such a long history. arduous,” added the commissioner.

Several non-profit organizations continue to place immigrants in different shelters in the city.

One of these entities is Team TLC NYC, led mostly by women.

“Several volunteers came to help and greet the group and we were able to feed each person and coordinate shelter in New York or bus tickets if they had to travel to another city,” said Catherine Cole, Executive Director of Team TLC NYC.
