The specialized auction house Baghera Wines sold 1,926 bottles of the smallest of the grands crus of Bourgogne, la Romanée, Sunday April 18. The whole of this rare collection went for 8.7 million euros, learned theAFP. In detail, it was 1,819 bottles, 106 magnums and a jeroboam. The record sales concern a batch of 12 bottles dating from 1865 and sold for around 1.8 million euros.

The most expensive bottle went for around € 182,000 each. Five copies, also dating from 1865, have been acquired in all. They dated from 1862 to 2005. La Romanée is the smallest controlled designation of origin (AOC) in the world.

Bottles “close to perfection”

It is produced in Vosne-Romanée, in Côte d’Or. Its vines range between 250 meters and 310 meters above sea level, writes the specialized site Burgundy wines, which describes these red Grands Crus “Flamboyant », dont « ceach has an assertive personality, also linked to the vintage and its development », like products « long and fine aging. As a general rule, they will not be tasted for about ten years. “

All come from the cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils, a house in the region. Baghera Wines Executive Director Michael Ganne highlighted his “Irreproachable know-how” and indicated that the quality of the lots offered was “Close to perfection”.

Only 3,600 bottles are produced per year. It is also the most sought-after grand cru in the world. The Romanée vineyard is surrounded by other great Burgundian vintages: La Romanée Conti, Richebourg or La Tâche.
