Düsseldorf Citizens in numerous large cities and districts in North Rhine-Westphalia can use an app to find out about burglary in their neighborhood from the end of November. As the interior ministry reported on Thursday, it is a new function of the existing app “MehrWetter”, which is operated by an insurance company.
In addition, certain functions are integrated into the “Katwarn” app.
Information about previous acts and the probability of a break-in should be provided. There are also prevention tips about how to better secure apartments from burglars.
According to the ministry, the forecast usually comes as a push notification every Monday for locations specified in advance by the user. A map of the past crime scenes should also be shown on a map. The first forecasts are to be published on November 30th.
The functions of the app are initially limited to the areas of responsibility of the 16 so-called criminal headquarters. The ministry listed Aachen, Bielefeld, Bochum, Bonn, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Hagen, Cologne, Krefeld, Mönchengladbach, Münster, Recklinghausen and Wuppertal.
The ministry emphasized that the number of break-ins in North Rhine-Westphalia has continuously decreased in recent years. Nevertheless, fighting them is still a priority for the police.
