Bundesliga: VfL Bochum is also represented – the eleven of the season

With its sovereign relegation, VfL Bochum is one of the surprises of the past season. SC Freiburg also came up trumps. Our top eleven – in the 4-1-2-1-2 system.

Goal – Manuel Riemann (VfL Bochum):

Made his Bundesliga debut at the age of 33 Manuel Riemann major part in the strong season of the VfL Bochum. With his saves he secured a few points for VfL and with 118 he fended off the fourth most shots on goal in the league. With three saved penalties, he is also the best penalty killer in the league. Riemann showed in the autumn of his career that he is one of the best keepers in the upper house.

Left defender – Christian Günter (SC Freiburg):

The people of Breisgau will compete in the Europa League next season. Captain and perennial favorite Christian Günter played a large part in this. The homegrown player hasn’t missed a minute of the game in the league and is always busy on his left flank. Both defensively, where Freiburg has one of the best defenses in the league, and offensively. In addition to two goals, Günter scored a whopping ten assists – an outstanding value for a defender. Consequently, he increased his market value to a career high of twelve million euros (as of May 2022).

Left central defender – Evan Ndicka (Eintracht Frankfurt):

Although the Hessians only play an average Bundesliga season, Ndicka has made it into the top eleven. Mainly because the 22-year-old was able to surpass his strong previous season. He is now undisputedly seeded and is one of the best players in the league in terms of tackle and pass rates. All in all, he is simply a complete central defender who will bring a lot of joy to the Frankfurters either through a high transfer fee or continued strong performances.

Right central defender – Nico Schlotterbeck (SC Freiburg):

Schlotterbeck has already taken this step. Borussia Dortmund charges around 20 million euros for its services. The 22-year-old has had a steep development. After a one-year loan to Union Berlin, he became firmly established in Freiburg’s defensive center. Schlotterbeck’s strengths lie in duels, speed, but also in the build-up game. In addition, with his 1.91 meters, he is also very dangerous according to standards. He scored four goals this season.

Right-back – David Raum (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim):

Of the many Fürth summer departures, Raum and Mainz’s Anton Stach have had the steepest developments. Both made it into the national team. Raum managed to take the vacant left-back position at TSG straight away. Three goals and above all 13 assists speak for themselves. He wasn’t immune to Hoffenheim’s recent slump either, but he really deserved his place here on the right.

Defensive midfield – Joshua Kimmich (FC Bayern Munich):

Kimmich and FC Bayern Munich have had a mixed year. In terms of sport, it was “only” enough for the German championship. Personally, the 27-year-old caused a debate about his attitude to the corona vaccination. To make matters worse, he caught the virus himself and was absent for a total of around two months. He also missed his partner Leon Goretzka, who was also injured, at his side for a long time. Even if Kimmich did not play his best year in Bayern dress, 15 goals and a pass rate of almost 90 percent are convincing. Somehow he was the thinker and leader in Bayern’s midfield.

Left midfield – Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig):

In our eleven, the Leipziger has to switch to the left wing. For RB he played mainly in the center of the attack and scored an unbelievable 20 goals and gave 15 assists. Nkunku was the linchpin in an otherwise constantly changing RB offensive. At the beginning of the season, he played a key role in Leipzig getting out of the slump and finally being able to qualify for the Champions League. According to “transfermarkt.de”, the 24-year-old increased his market value to 65 million euros. For us he is the player of the season.

Attacking midfield – Thomas Müller (FC Bayern Munich):

The eternal Thomas Müller. This season he is once again the best assist provider in the league. There were 21 templates in the end, plus eight goals. Müller was an important fixture in the Bayern game and, after some speculation, recently officially extended his contract again until the summer of 2024.

Right midfield – Moussa Diaby (Bayer Leverkusen):

The Frenchman was one of the best players at Bayer 04 Leverkusen and, especially together with Florian Wirtz, drove the offensive again and again. Diaby is fast, energetic, almost impossible to get hold of and showed his qualities especially when Leverkusen were given space. There is also little to complain about in terms of efficiency, 13 goals and twelve assists speak for themselves!

Left Forward – Patrik Schick (Bayer 04 Leverkusen):

Leverkusen transferred 26.5 million euros to AS Roma for Schick’s services in the summer of 2020. An investment that has paid off this season at the latest. With an unbelievable 24 goals in 27 games, the 26-year-old made a major contribution to the strong season at Leverkusen, which culminated in the early Champions League qualification. Since his time in Leipzig, Schick has developed into an ice-cold snapper and has had the best season of his life. Even a ligament and a muscle fiber tear did not bring him out of step. Good for Bayer: The Czech’s contract runs until the summer of 2025.

Right Forward – Robert Lewandowski (FC Bayern Munich):

The Pole is and remains the measure of all things among the Bundesliga strikers. He was top scorer for the fifth time in a row – this time with 35 goals this season. Lewandowski is a star athlete, has performed at the highest level for years and is the most complete forward the league has to offer. The Bavarians benefit from this just as much as Lewandowski himself, who knows that there is a crowd of highly talented suppliers around him. It is possible that this constellation will be blown up in summer. In any case, the Pole does not want to extend his contract, which runs until June 30, 2023.

Coach – Christian Streich (SC Freiburg):

In the fast-moving football business, Christian Streich has been a constant as SC Freiburg coach for almost ten and a half years now. The 56-year-old has been through everything with his club, from the Europa League to being relegated to the second division and being promoted directly again. Now there is another year on the international stage and the first DFB Cup final in the club’s history. This is made possible by courageous and refreshing attacking football. Vincenzo Grifo fills his leadership role strongly, and the 58 goals this season are evenly distributed over many shoulders. The SCF has no real life insurance, which makes attacking play all the more unpredictable. Defensively, Philipp Lienhart and Nico Schlotterbeck form one of the best central defender duos in the league, behind them is Mark Flekken, one of the best in his field.
