FC Augsburg narrowly won against Bayer Leverkusen and gained air in the relegation battle of the Bundesliga.
With the 1-0 (0-0) on Friday (02/03/2023), FC Augsburg distanced themselves to five points from the relegation place and now has 21 points. Bayer Leverkusen is in the middle of the table with 24 points.
Diaby hits the post, Berisha hits the goal
The first half was largely uneventful. The big exception was a shot from Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby in the 30th minute, which hit the right post from the right position in the penalty area. Otherwise, Leverkusen remained harmless.

Berisha still had a great chance to make it 2-0 in the 71st minute – when Mads Pedersen crossed in from the left – but was too surprised and flipped the ball into the arms of Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hrádecký.

Even in the final phase, uninspired guests failed to create good scoring chances. The Augsburg victory was no longer in danger. Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso called the game a step backwards. “Our mistakes in a defensive corner were decisive for the defeat.”
