Bundesliga: Internet provider DAZN will also show football next season

The streaming service DAZN will also show Bundesliga soccer matches in the coming season. The paid Internet provider broadcasts with a sub-license from the US group Discovery. The package includes a total of 45 games, including the Supercup and the relegation games. The core consists of 30 Bundesliga games on Friday and five each on Sunday and Monday.

Most recently, the transmissions were unsafe, as Discovery and its daughter Eurosport, as contract partners of the German Football League, had canceled several months ago. The week before last, the arbitration tribunal of the German Institution for Arbitration (DIS) declared this termination to be ineffective. Discovery / Eurosport has held the rights since then.

The media company had secured the Bundesliga package in 2016, but decided against further use of the rights after two seasons with moderate audience success. The streaming service DAZN acquired a sub-license last summer and broadcast it until the Corona break.

After the Discovery / Eurosport cancellation and the resumption of gaming operations in May, the DFL had temporarily agreed with DAZN and the US retail giant Amazon to broadcast several games. For the new season, a new agreement between Discovery and DAZN was necessary after the arbitration court decision.
