“First of all, I would like to thank the management of the club, who have placed their trust in me in this difficult situation. I am very happy to be able to work here in Altach again. It feels a little like coming home. Above all is the club and that in about three months we will have achieved our common goal of staying up, ”said Canadi.
Together with Canadi, who lives in Dornbirn, the Spanish cotrainer Manu Hervas also moved to Altach. Hervas recently assisted Canadi at Atromitos. The duo will be leading the first training session on Wednesday afternoon. “Now it is a matter of getting to know the team personally as quickly as possible and then taking the right measures together so that sporting success returns,” said the native of Vienna.
“Guide the ship into calmer waters”
Canadi has already brought success to Altach. He led Altach into the Bundesliga in 2014 and then even into the European Cup, where Vitoria Guimaraes failed in the last qualifying round for the 2015/16 Europa League. The 2016 calendar year ended sensationally as the winter king under Canadi, whereupon Rapid brought the trainer from Vorarlberg to Vienna.
“Damir Canadi is the most successful coach in Altach’s club history, has a close connection to the region and knows the conditions at SCR Altach like no other. In addition, the contact has never been broken in recent years, which is why we are convinced that Damir is the right person to guide the ship back into calmer waters, ”said Altach’s managing director Christoph Längle.
The first test for Canadi takes place on Sunday at Pellets WAC. “He has been able to gain a lot of international experience and celebrate successes in recent years. We are sure that he can give the team another impulse so that we can achieve our goals in the end, ”said sporting director Christian Möckel.
