Bulleit Bourbon and Lira Arte Público join forces to reactivate neighborhoods through urban art

Bulleit Bourbon, one of the most awarded brands of American whiskey, joins the creative studio Lira Arte Público to present “Open Borders”, a circuit of large-scale murals in Santiago that celebrates cultural diversity seeking to reactivate the vitality of the commune of Providencia connecting urban art with neighborhoods, communities, bars, restaurants and local businesses.

From the brand, which is defined as a border whiskey, they explain that this is not a physical place, but a shared purpose between people who constantly exceed their own limits. Urban art and interventions in public spaces are part of the projects that Bulleit promotes in the world to highlight the work of artists, creators and places that are located on the limits of these modern cultural borders.

Inspired by this pioneering spirit and under the curatorship of Lira Arte Público, four Chilean artists of diverse styles, but united by their talent and a firm conviction to open borders through art, were summoned to create four unique large-scale pieces, each one expressing his view of the world, artistic imprint and life story.

“At the heart of each community are artists, entrepreneurs, stories, and usually a meeting place that is usually a bar or restaurant. As a brand focused on building community, we are very happy to collaborate with Lira Arte Público to spread art in the city as a tool for social regeneration that helps us rekindle the excitement for public spaces and encourage people to return to their bars. favorite venues to enjoy responsibly, ”said Aracelly Vera, Bulleit Regional Brand Manager at Diageo.

“Lira’s vision has always been to open social, gender and artistic boundaries, between the private and the public, the individual and the collective, the academy and the street. The alliance with Bulleit was born from this shared purpose, with the aim of creating community, encouraging access to culture in the city and promoting the work of emerging local artists ”, comments Esteban Barrera, curator of Lira Arte Público.

The first mural is located on Calle Román Díaz No. 26, a street that houses various venues, restaurants and bars. This was done by the painter Rodrigo ESTOY (@ rodrigoestoy.cl), who since 2012 is dedicated to urban art, developing a body of work recognized in Chile, Latin America and Europe. His works, marked by realistic lines and characters, represent distinctive figures of the ancestral and traditional Chilean culture.

“The mural speaks of that moment when we change our point of view, our perspective and after an intimate and thoughtful process we decide to expand our borders. The intervention is full of symbolisms and elements that can be
interpreted freely, but for me they represent the exploration of new horizons, the freedom with which we can move and the roots of who we are and who we take to each place, ”expressed the painter ESTOY.

The mural circuit incorporates a positive environmental factor through the intersection between art and sustainability, as each work will be made with Photio, an innovative Chilean technology that consists of an air-purifying component that is added to the paint to emulate the action. decontaminating trees. This 350m2 mural is equivalent to 175 adult trees.

During the execution of the circuit murals, Lira Arte Público will also carry out a series of talks, design workshops, techniques and materials to create murals, and an exhibition with works by renowned urban artists with the support of Bulleit.

The murals of the “Open Borders” circuit are expected to be ready by the end of the year. All collaborations with artists, creators and whiskey lovers will be documented and shared using the hashtags #AbrirFronteras and #FrontierWalls at @bulleitcl and
@liraartepublico.
