Bugatti canceled its sedan project due to “ugliness”

Bugatti only sells one model of sports car, a supercar that has traditionally aimed at the heights of the “supercar” category since the start of the 21st century with the Veyron, replaced in 2016 by the Chiron. But the Molsheim brand did not just sell these two sports cars at all. Behind the scenes, Bugatti leaders have repeatedly launched projects of other models to expand the range.

There was this V8 engine “Atlantic” coupe installed in the front position, which we were talking about a few days ago. There was also an ultra-luxurious coupe project marketed in very small series at an astronomical price, with the same W16 as the Chiron. But Bugatti also wanted to develop an ultra-luxurious and ultra-efficient limousine inspired by the Galibier concept car of 2009. And if the latter was not finally sold, it is for a very particular reason.

Got too ugly

According to Bugatti design chief Achim Anscheidt who spoke to Hagerty, the final version of the Bugatti sedan had simply become “too ugly to be sold”. It looked like a “dachshund” because of “missed proportions and a massive silhouette which gave the impression of very small wheels”. Following this observation, Bugatti executives decided in 2011 to stop the project to focus on the replacement for the Veyron, which will become the Chiron.
