Brussels wants written answers from Bern

Brussels hopes that this will give more clarity about Switzerland’s position. According to SRF, one of the questions is whether the Federal Council agrees that all market access agreements are linked.

Based on the answers, the EU will then decide whether to start negotiations with Switzerland. This approach is not unusual, said Leu on the program “Echo der Zeit”.

When asked about the already known positions of the EU Commission – such as the role of the EU Court of Justice (ECJ) or the introduction of a dispute settlement mechanism – Leu said that the Federal Council had made it clear that there was no institutional framework agreement 2.0.

The state secretary confirmed that the positions are currently still far apart, “I don’t find that surprising at all”. It simply shows that the exploratory talks must continue. So far, two rounds of talks have taken place in Brussels.
