Brühl: You save lives with your blood – Brühl

Bruehl. Blood donations save lives. Despite medical advances, blood still cannot be artificially produced or replaced. Blood transfusions are therefore the only chance of survival for many people after an accident or an operation. With it you save lives. Every day 14,000 blood donations are needed throughout Germany – for acute care in accidents, in cancer therapy, for operations and for immune diseases.

For the first time since the start of the pandemic, the local DRK branch in Bruehl honored people who have donated blood many times. Leandra Kitzing, Lara Schock and Finja Sommer from the youth music school framed the ceremony with their flutes in the DRK house in Mannheimer Landstrasse. The president of the local association, Michael Bartonek, also welcomed Professor Dr. Patrick Wuchter as a representative of the blood donation service of Baden-Württemberg/Hesse.

The local association has been conducting blood donation campaigns in its community of origin for 63 years. The number of 25,000 units of blood was reached years ago. Bartonek thanked the community, the city council and administration, the helpers of the local association and the active members of the Red Cross family. Without the faithful donors, who have given their blood selflessly, voluntarily and for free on several occasions to save the wounded and sick, the community could not be served, he says.

proof of solidarity

“All of you who have repeatedly agreed to donate blood are the best proof of the cohesion in our society when it comes to life-saving help,” Mayor Dr. Ralf Göck praised the awardees: “Today I would like to express my appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the many blood donors for this humane attitude towards the great good of health. it is full of life”.

Blood products to save lives are needed every day. Accident victims and seriously ill people would otherwise have no chance of survival. Göck, who himself has donated blood 48 times, thanked the local association for their efforts with the appointments, but also the active people for their commitment, for example with the medical service in the party hall and at sports events or social activities such as summer festival or street carnival.

The community wanted to thank the blood donors with the small ceremony. The town hall boss then surprised a community employee with a special award. Messenger Ulrich Baar has donated blood no fewer than 125 times and would have been honored last year. This was not possible due to Corona, now this honor is being compensated for the “permanent blood donor”, so Göck presented the golden badge of honor with a crown, certificate and community picture.

“It is important that you are here today, that you have taken the time, that we gather here in your honor. You are a role model and an example at the same time and have provided orientation,” Göck drew together with Michael Bartonek and Professor Dr. Patrick Wuchter of blood donors. The representative of the blood donation service thanked the community and the local association: Blood donors and volunteering deserve the utmost respect. The high rate of first-time donors shows that there are young people out there. He was especially pleased with this, Wuchter said.
