Brothers Borlée train with French sprint coach: “Look like boys of 18” | Athletics

The Borlée brothers announced it a few weeks ago: to get some more oxygen – especially after postponing the Olympic Games – the trio would discover the sprint numbers – 100 and 200 meters – a bit more. For this they appeal to the French coach Guy Ontanon.

The Frenchman, according to father and coach Jacques Borlée “one of the best sprint coaches in Europe”, worked remotely with his new students last month. This afternoon there was a first training moment “in person”.

“It went very well,” commented Ontanon. “We have known each other for a long time and because of the frequent contact via video conference we were able to get to the core very quickly today.”

“For me, working with the Borlées is a major challenge. The intention is to improve the quality of their 200m, without breaking records. The improvement in quality at the pure speed of the 200 will benefit the 400m.”

The brothers themselves also only recorded positive sounds. “We seem like boys of 18 who are learning something new and that is really great. Always training at the 400 meters is monotonous, even though we always try to learn with dad and develop new techniques,” said Dylan Borlée.

“The week we learned that the Games had been canceled, the training was very difficult. Changing the way we work was really necessary,” said Jonathan Borlée.

“This change and a new goal was necessary for the mental. We have already learned a lot in the meantime: our start, for example.”

“We don’t have the habit of getting off the starting blocks like sprinters do, Ontanon has already corrected us a lot there. The collaboration with him for almost six weeks now is very enriching.”

Father and coach Jacques Borlée: “My sons learn a lot and what is especially important is that they have fun again. Every morning they are eager to start, they discuss each other again, the enthusiasm is back and that in a very difficult period. “
