“This is another unauthorized documentary that she did not collaborate on and endorse,” the insider said. The Netflix trailer shows that the documentary discusses, among other things, a confidential report that someone who is “close to receivership” has leaked to the filmmakers.

The director of Britney vs Spears, Erin Lee Carr, says in an interview with the L.A. Times that she tried to contact Spears to ask her to work on the documentary. She says she’s always “hoped and wished and prayed to the documentary gods” for an interview, but knew it was unlikely to happen.

Asked if she cares what Britney thinks of the film, Carr replies: “I’ve thought about that a lot. I love her music and women’s rights are close to my heart. But it’s a journalistic project. So I had to everyone involved talk and leave my own ideas out.” However, she has been careful to show images from the time when Spears had a mental breakdown in the documentary. “That was a conscious decision, because she has previously indicated that it is traumatizing for her.”
