British woman sells house she lived in for 102 years

Gifford’s parents bought the three-bedroom house in the southern English village of Street in 1921 for just £200. Now the elderly woman wants to sell the property for around £170,000 (€193,800). According to the Bank of England, the purchasing power of a pound in 1921 would be worth about 39 pounds (about 44 euros) today.

When the Brit moved in with her family 102 years ago at the age of two, the kitchen, toilet and washing area were not covered. Later, after some modernization, she lived in the house with her husband Bert for decades and raised their son, who described growing up there in the BBC interview as “fantastic”. “We were all poor,” he said of the neighborhood, “but everyone was happy.”
