British teenager tears free from crocodile’s jaws: ‘Very lucky’ | Abroad

Amelie Osborn-Smith had to fight for her life when she was dragged by a crocodile and held in a ‘deadly role’ while swimming with friends in the Zambezi River not far from Victoria Falls.

“You don’t really think in such a situation, people say you see your life flash before your eyes, but that’s not true. You just think ‘how do I get out of this situation?’ and your brain goes into overdrive,” says the British from her hospital bed. “I was just very lucky,” said Osborn-Smith, who said she had already resigned herself to losing her foot as a result of the incident. She was very relieved when she was told that her foot will be fine and that she will be able to walk again.

The girl was rescued by her friends who punched the ten-foot reptile and hoisted the teen aboard a boat, reports The Sun. She was then flown by helicopter to an aid station in nearby Livingstone and from there taken to a hospital about 385 kilometers away in the capital Lusaka.

The girl from Hampshire was on holiday in Zambia, where her grandmother has a farm.
