British Prince Philip dies at the age of 99 – Abroad – News

“Her Majesty the Queen announces with deep sadness the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” the royal statement said. “His Royal Highness this morning at Windsor Castle peacefully passed away. Further announcements will be made soon. The royal family and people around the world are mourning his departure.”

Elizabeth and Philip married in 1947, five years before she became Queen of Great Britain. They are the longest ruling royal couple in British history.

In mid-March the prince was discharged from the hospital and returned to Windsor Castle, where he lived in isolation from the world around him during the pandemic with Elizabeth II.

When Philip was hospitalized in February, Buckingham Palace announced that the prince was suffering from an infection, but did not reveal any. The castle later stated that the prince was not infected with the new coronavirus.

In early March, the castle announced that Philip had been transferred to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, where he underwent a successful medical procedure for a pre-existing heart problem. He was then taken back to the hospital of King Edward VII, from which he was discharged on 16 March.

The prince was hospitalized on February 16, the longest time Philip spent in the hospital.

In 2017, after spending two days in the hospital, Philip at the age of 96 ended his active participation in official events. In 2018, he underwent hip surgery.

In January 2019, Philip was involved in a car accident near Queen Sandringham Manor. Two people were injured in the accident, but the prince was not injured.

In December 2019, Philip spent four nights in the hospital, but was discharged for Christmas. Since then, Philip has not been seen in society.
