British Skydiver Survives 3,350-Meter Fall in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS - A British man and his skydiving instructor miraculously survived a fall of approximately 3,350 meters (11,000 feet) after a parachute malfunction during a jump in Las vegas. The incident, which would typically be fatal, occurred recently and has prompted an investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMP) and the United States Parachute Association (USPA).
Mitchell Deakin,the British skydiver,sustained multiple injuries including a fractured pelvis,broken ribs,a perforated lung,and a laceration to his kidney. A GoFundMe campaign launched by his girlfriend, Isabel Clorr, to cover medical expenses has already raised around $24,000.The couple is currently far from home, making the situation “extremely traumatic” for Deakin, his family, and friends, according to the fundraising page.
jirón Arcos Ponce, the 54-year-old instructor, was also critically injured but was released from critical care as of September 25. He stated to the New York Post that the landing devices “did not work as well as they shoudl.”
both men fell at an estimated speed of 22 to 28 kilometers per hour (35 to 45 miles per hour). Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the parachute failure.Despite their severe injuries, the survival of Deakin and Arcos is being described by many as a miracle.
