British minister asks Netflix to warn about fiction in The Crown | NOW

Oliver Dowden, the British Culture Secretary, thinks Netflix should warn viewers that the story of The Crown is fictional. According to The Sun he wants to send a letter to the streaming service to request a report about the royal family.

According to the minister, the series is “a beautifully produced fictional work”. “But, as with other TV series, Netflix must clearly state in a warning message that it is fiction. Without that, I fear that a generation of viewers who have not experienced these events will mistake fiction for fact.”

The request follows criticism from, among others, royalty reporters about “untruths” The Crown. That followed after the release of the fourth season on November 15. The new series includes the difficult relationship of Prince Charles and Diana and is about her eating disorder.

The series is very popular despite the criticism. Last week, 29 million people watched the series, according to British media.
