The accident happened around 11 a.m. yesterday morning on the edge of a blue slope, reports the French Le Dauphine. It was a clear day and visibility was good. The British girl died when she was taken to hospital by helicopter.
Suspicion of manslaughter
The man who bumped into the girl has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. It was a volunteer firefighter. He would be ‘devastated’ by the fatal accident and in shock.
The public prosecutor suspects the man, in his forties, of manslaughter. “The girl was trying to make a right turn during a lesson when she was hit hard by a skier who arrived at high speed and tried to avoid her in vain.”
Psychological assistance
The police investigation focuses on the man’s speed and whether he has taken enough account of safety on the slopes.
The mayor of the ski resort says that all employees and involved on the slopes are in shock. All those involved are offered help from psychologists.
