British Defense Ministry: Russia has removed key generals from their posts

Russia has likely removed several generals from key command positions in the conflict in Ukraine this month. This was announced by the British Ministry of Defense, quoted by Reuters.

“Since the beginning of June, it is very likely that the Russian high command has removed several generals from key operational command roles in the war in Ukraine,” the agency said in its daily Twitter report.

After weeks of fierce street fighting, Ukrainian forces received yesterday order to withdraw from the city of Severodonetskto limit the number of victims and regroup.

The retreat of Ukrainian troops was a key moment in the war as it left the whole of Luhansk under Russian control, with the exception of the city of Lisichansk.

Luhansk, a predominantly Russian-speaking region in eastern Ukraine, is a key priority for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Together with the Donetsk region, it forms the so-called Donbass, a large industrial region that has been at the center of the Russian-backed separatist movement since 2014.
