Cairo – Masrawy:

The British BP announced today, Monday, that it has started producing gas from its latest offshore discovery in Egypt, in partnership with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), which is the Katameya field, which is located in the North Damietta offshore concession area.

The company said in a statement that this field has been developed through the Pharaonic Joint Stock Company (EGAS / BP), which is expected to produce 50 million cubic feet of gas per day from one well that has been linked to the undersea infrastructure.

“The assets of BP and its existing marine infrastructure contributed to the development of the Katameya field in an efficient and economic manner, which embodies a good example of how the development of hydrocarbon resources is compatible with global economic changes, and this is a key part of BP’s development strategy,” said Karim Alaa, Regional Director for North Africa. .

He added in the statement: “We are proud of our ability to safely produce on schedule during a very challenging phase. The BB team is still achieving positive results for Egypt to benefit from its energy potential, and this production is an addition to our successful project record through our existing partnership with the Egyptian petroleum sector.” In this context, we must value the support provided by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to overcome all challenges and work in an attractive investment climate.

The Kattameya field was discovered in 2017 and the Kattameya field is located about 45 km west of the Habi platform at a depth of 108 meters, which is part of the North Damietta marine concession and was linked through a 50 km pipeline extending to the Torte and Habi fields, and it is controlled through The facilities are under the water via a 50 km link, according to the statement.

It is noteworthy that BP owns 100% of the North Damietta concession in the eastern Nile Delta, noting that the gas produced from this field is pumped to the national gas network.
