British BBC, controversy over ‘external pressure’ for sports host to get off the air… “It’s not fairness, it’s a matter of freedom of speech”

The British BBC, which has been proud of its fair press, has been embroiled in controversy over political pressure by removing a sports program host from the broadcast.

The repercussions of the situation are spreading to the BBC’s leadership and political circles.

The beginning of the BBC crisis was the recently announced policy to deport illegal migrants by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

[리시 수낵 . 영국 총리 (지난 7일) : 불법 입국하면 구금하고 신속히 추방할 것입니다. 한 번 이렇게 조치하면 계속 그럴 것이란 걸 알 것입니다.]

Following the announcement, former soccer player and BBC host Gary Lineker took to social media to criticize the government’s action.

“The policy is unfathomably brutal against the most powerless,” Lineker wrote.

The ruling Conservatives then attacked Lineker for violating the BBC’s fairness principles, while opponents defended him, saying he was not a full-time employee.

In response, the situation escalated when the BBC suddenly stopped Lineker from appearing on the show the day before the broadcast.

Even some hosts who sympathized with Lineker refused to appear, causing the broadcast to cripple, and the BBC president was swayed by ‘political pressure’ and he was suspended from appearing, and a theory of responsibility arose.

The situation has even spread to the future of BBC Chairman Richard Sharp.

Chairman Sharpe was recently pressured to resign after it was revealed that he helped former Prime Minister Boris Johnson with loans prior to his appointment.

As the situation spread, Prime Minister Sunak tried to avoid responsibility, saying that Lineker’s case was the responsibility of the BBC itself, and the opposition party demanded that the government and the BBC disclose how they came into contact with the matter.

The BBC also criticized its action in a recent report, saying that the decision to exclude Lineker from the broadcast “appears that the BBC has succumbed to political pressure” and that the situation is “a matter of free speech, not fairness”.
